Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has issued a clarification after South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) called for accountability following killing of its Prisoners of War in Walgak, Akobo County.
The medical charity says it does not operate or have any staff in Walgak where alleged killings took place.
“MSF has not worked in this location over the past years, had no personnel present there, and exercised no operational control, supervision, or authority over any facilities, assets, or activities in Walgak at the time of the reported events,” reads the press release shared by MSF.
The organisation stressed that it was committed to transparency and to ensuring that accurate information is shared with authorities, partners and affected communities, particularly in sensitive situations involving reported violence or loss of life.
The response has come after SSPDF reportedly found a container they allege belongs to MSF where its 13 prisoners of war were killed in Walgak.
The government forces took control of Walgak, a town in Akobo County on February 5, 2026.
The conflict between SSPDF and SPLA-IO has displaced hundreds of thousands of civilians and exposed them to humanitarian crisis.
