The situation in Sudan is escalating, leading to a humanitarian and displacement crisis projected to be the most severe globally. Rights groups report famine already in Sudan.
After severe floods hit several parts of South Sudan in 2020, thousands of people were displaced from their homes. However, some of these areas would later remain not inhabitable due to floods and insecurity. Here is the only hope for these communities to return home.

According to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement signed in 2005 to conclude the civil war in Sudan, the futures of Abyei, Blue Nile, and Southern Kordofan were to be decided by individual referendums, which have yet to occur. As South Sudan marks its independence, suffering persists throughout the Nuba Mountains.
The report highlights an alarming overall increase in violence, showing an 86 percent rise in the number of victims, a 110 percent rise in civilian fatalities, and a 94 percent rise in injuries compared to the October-December 2024 quarter.
The organisation projects that in July 2025, approximately 125,000 new arrivals will be received in South Sudan, with around 43,000 individuals requiring urgent assistance.
