The US Department of State has announced sanctions on individuals and entities alleged to be linked to Iran’s ballistic missile program.
Tammy Bruce, US Department of State's Spokesperson, says some companies based in China of supporting Iran both economically and technically, which it terms a threat to US allies.
“Specifically, these entities and individuals are supporting Iran’s efforts to indigenize the manufacturing of carbon fibre for use in Iran’s ballistic missile program,” reads a statement issued by Tammy Bruce, the US Department of State’s Spokesperson.
Bruce continued that the individuals and entities supply carbon fibre and carbon fibre manufacturing equipment to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)’s affiliate organisations.
He says the US government’s action is intended to frustrate Iran’s procurement of equipment and other materials that support Iran’s ballistic missile program.
“The United States will use all available means, including sanctions on entities based in third countries, to expose and disrupt Iran’s schemes to procure equipment and items supporting its ballistic missile program, which destabilises the Middle East and beyond,” Bruce added.
On Monday, May 12, the US sanctioned five individuals and their firms for Iran's nuclear-related research.
